In 2015, Taiwan’s leading new media innovator, ELTA TV, launched a comprehensive partnership with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to bring the unique charm of British television directly to Taiwan — marking the BBC’s largest media collaboration in Taiwan to date. ELTA assumed operational responsibility for the BBC channel lineup on Chunghwa Telecom’s MOD platform, providing HD-quality channels and VOD services to meet audience demand.
**A Comprehensive BBC-ELTA Partnership: A Triple-Win for All**
Popular BBC programs such as *Doctor Who*, *Primeval*, and *Hustle* will now air on ELTA TV channels, with additional access through MOD’s on-demand service. CEO Sally Chen stated: “This is the BBC’s largest media partnership in Taiwan and its first comprehensive collaboration with a Taiwanese media company, covering channel operations, on-demand content, and program broadcasting. We hope this partnership will create synergy beyond expectations — a true win-win-win for the BBC, ELTA, and our viewers.” BBC Worldwide Asia EVP David Weiland added: “BBC is actively expanding in Asia, and Taiwan is a key market for our continued growth. We are delighted to partner with ELTA to deliver more high-quality BBC content to Taiwanese audiences through multiple platforms.”
**HD and Multi-Screen BBC Experience with ELTA’s OTT Service**
The BBC channels managed by ELTA include BBC Knowledge (MOD CH30), BBC Lifestyle (MOD CH37), BBC Entertainment (MOD CH77), and BBC World News (MOD CH151) — offering content spanning knowledge, lifestyle, entertainment, and global news. Under ELTA’s management, BBC Knowledge and BBC World News have been upgraded to HD on MOD, allowing for a sharper, more immersive viewing experience. To meet the growing demand for multi-screen viewing, the BBC channels are also available on Hami Mobile TV, enabling viewers to watch anytime, anywhere. Additionally, BBC programs are available on MOD’s VOD platform for convenient, on-demand access.
**Bringing BBC’s Premium Content to ELTA Channels**
BBC’s acclaimed shows have long been favorites among global audiences, and ELTA now brings selected popular series to its general and drama channels. A highlight is *Doctor Who*, the world’s longest-running sci-fi series, which has aired for over 51 years and draws over 100 million viewers worldwide. To celebrate this collaboration, from January 27 to February 28, ELTA “Fun Package” subscribers on MOD can enjoy free access to the four BBC channels plus the Travel Channel. Starting March 1, these five channels officially join the ELTA Fun Package, offering subscribers nine premium channels for NT$99 per month.
**Partnering with the BBC: The First Step in International Channel Representation**
As a technology-driven new media company, ELTA continues to expand its influence from digital technology into broadcasting and now international channel representation. CEO Sally Chen stated that ELTA embraces challenges and aims for diversified growth in the competitive media market. The partnership with BBC marks only the beginning — ELTA plans to introduce and represent even more premium international channels in the future.
