Four Major Broadcasters Join Forces
Over 2,500 Hours of Olympic and Paralympic Coverage Promoting Sports Equality
The world’s most anticipated sporting event, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, will officially begin on July 27 (Taiwan time) and continue for 17 days. Following Team Taiwan’s record-breaking performance at the Tokyo Olympics with 2 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze medals, more than 50 Taiwanese athletes are expected to compete in Paris, the “City of Lights,” in pursuit of the highest honors in global sports. The 2024 Paris Paralympics will follow on August 29, with Taiwanese athletes once again taking part.
With only 40 days until the Paris Olympics, the broadcasting plan has been officially announced: Chunghwa Telecom, ELTA TV, Public Television Service (PTS), and Chinese Television System (CTS) will jointly present more than 2,500 hours of Olympic and Paralympic coverage, enabling audiences across Taiwan to enjoy live sports anytime, anywhere, while supporting “Sports Equality” and cheering for Team Taiwan.
Over 2,500 Hours of Combined Olympic and Paralympic Coverage
Real-Time Access to Every Moment of Team Taiwan’s Journey
Guided by the Sports Administration under the Ministry of Education, this year’s joint Olympic and Paralympic broadcast will feature four major platforms: IPTV and OTT broadcasters Chunghwa Telecom and ELTA, and terrestrial networks PTS and CTS (the latter also carried by cable systems). Events will air across Chunghwa Telecom’s MOD IPTV platform, Hami Video OTT, and terrestrial and cable TV networks.
Chunghwa Telecom, participating in Olympic broadcasting for the fifth consecutive time, will provide the most extensive live coverage in Taiwan—some in 4K quality—through an exclusive “Paris Olympics Zone.” The service will feature innovative technologies such as AR and ultra-slow-motion replays, offering an immersive viewing experience. Additional features include “Medal Alert” push notifications and “Hot Replay” functions that help viewers instantly locate key highlights and medal moments. Both Hami Video and MOD set-top boxes have received ISO 14067 carbon footprint certification, echoing the Paris Olympics’ commitment to ESG principles.
ELTA Sports Channels 1–4 will deliver more than 500 hours of Mandarin commentary, backed by a 100-member production team and over 50 professional anchors and analysts, providing clear, in-depth coverage of every Team Taiwan event and adapting swiftly to the fast-changing Olympic atmosphere.
The OTT streaming platforms Hami Video and ELTA.tv will also introduce three dedicated Olympic channels—ELTA Olympic 1, 2, and 3—bringing a total of 7 channels and nearly 1,000 hours of comprehensive coverage. Fans can follow Team Taiwan’s performances live and on the go through mobile devices.
Public Television Service (PTS) will broadcast key events featuring Taiwanese athletes, including badminton stars Tai Tzu-Ying, Chou Tien-Chen, and the doubles pair Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin; judo champion Yang Yung-Wei; weightlifter Kuo Hsing-Chun; tennis players Hsieh Su-Wei and Tsao Chia-Yi; gymnasts Tang Chia-Hung and Ting Hua-Tien; and table tennis players Lin Yun-Ju and Chuang Chih-Yuan, along with swimmers and boxers across various weight classes. Anchors Chen Ya-Li and Tu En-Chen will lead coverage of the opening and closing ceremonies, joined by broadcasters Chien Wei-Cheng, Cheng Ping-Chen, and Tsai Po-Yu, who will bring Taiwan’s golden moments to life.
CTS has also ramped up its sports broadcasting capacity for the 2024 Paris Olympics, assembling a team of veteran anchors and expert commentators for detailed play-by-play analysis. Sports anchor Cheng Ya-Fang will report live from Paris, bringing the latest updates directly from the Olympic venues.
Following the Olympics, the Paris Paralympic Games will take place starting August 29 (Taiwan time). ELTA will once again deliver coverage for the second consecutive Paralympics, broadcasting more than 75 hours of Mandarin-language live content across ELTA Sports Channels 1–4, in partnership with PTS and CTS. The joint effort invites viewers to support Paralympic athletes and embrace the spirit of “We All Love Sports—We Are All Equal.”
