The Subscription Era Has Arrived: ELTA.tv Subscribers Surpass Previous Olympics
Paid Subscriptions 1.3× Higher Than Qatar World Cup Peak

The most beautiful Summer Olympics in history has officially concluded, and ELTA (8487-Innovation), Taiwan’s exclusive broadcaster for the Paris 2024 Games, achieved record-breaking viewership. Despite the six-hour time difference between Paris and Taiwan—with over one-third of live coverage airing after midnight—ELTA’s OTT platform (ELTA.tv) surpassed its Tokyo Olympics subscription record within just two days of the Games’ start, and one week later exceeded the peak performance of the Qatar World Cup. At its highest point, total subscriptions reached 1.3 times that of the World Cup’s record peak.

As Taiwan enters a new era of diversified media consumption, audiences are increasingly embracing the sustainable model of “pay-per-view for premium sports content.” Overcoming time-zone challenges, ELTA and its strategic partner Chunghwa Telecom delivered 24-hour non-stop coverage, totaling 2,500 hours of world-class Olympic programming. The success defied early skepticism from some platforms and marked a new milestone in Taiwan’s sports broadcasting industry.

Paris Olympics Outperform Tokyo in Engagement
MOD ELTA Channel Ad Revenue Up Nearly 50%

Viewership for the Paris Olympics remained outstanding. ELTA’s overall MOD live ratings reached over 70% of the Tokyo 2020 levels (which had no time difference), while Olympic replays outperformed Tokyo’s by more than 30%. This demonstrated that audiences closely followed the Games—whether live, replayed during the day, or viewed on-demand (VOD)—exceeding total engagement metrics from the previous Olympics.

The highest ratings were achieved during the thrilling gold medal victory of badminton duo Lee Yang and Wang Chi-Lin, with a peak MOD rating of 9.14—the highest of 2024. Boxer Lin Yu-Ting’s gold medal bout also set a record for ELTA’s highest late-night rating in channel history.

Originally planning for 500 hours of localized Mandarin commentary, ELTA and Chunghwa Telecom expanded coverage by 1.4× to 700 hours, delivering rich, diverse, and precisely produced programming that overcame time-zone barriers to capture audiences’ attention. This strong engagement also boosted advertising performance—MOD ad revenue met its target just two days after the opening ceremony and ultimately reached 1.5× that of the Tokyo Olympics.

329 Gold Medals Covered Without Missing a Beat
ELTA Sports Channel Fanbase Surpasses 2 Million

Online discussions around the Games were vibrant, with ELTA’s instant highlight sharing driving further growth and loyalty among fans. During the Paris Olympics, ELTA’s combined sports channel social media following across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Threads exceeded 2 million, cementing its position as Taiwan’s most influential sports media brand.

Ahead of the Games, ELTA pledged to deliver uninterrupted coverage of all 329 gold medal events—serving viewers across 47 sports, from traditional favorites like athletics, swimming, gymnastics, badminton, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, and football, to emerging sports such as skateboarding, surfing, breaking, and sport climbing. This “watch what you love” strategy ensured every audience segment had their own way to engage.

ELTA’s social platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Threads, collectively surpassed 2 million followers. Notably, ELTA Sports’ Facebook page became the first Taiwanese sports channel to exceed 1 million followers, solidifying its role as the top local hub for Olympic and sports-related discussions.

ELTA Continues Deep Commitment to Sports Broadcasting
Paralympics Begin August 29 – Support Taiwan’s Athletes and Legal Viewing

Following the conclusion of the Paris Olympics, ELTA TV and Chunghwa Telecom’s Hami Video will continue to lead Taiwan’s sports media coverage, immediately shifting focus to both domestic grassroots competitions (e.g., bodybuilding, badminton, street dance) and top-tier international events including the BWF World Tour, WTT Table Tennis Tour, English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, NFL, Formula 1, and daily MLB broadcasts.

Starting August 29 (Taiwan time), ELTA will broadcast the 2024 Paris Paralympics, featuring 13 Taiwanese athletes competing on the world stage. Together with Chunghwa Telecom, ELTA will provide high-quality Paralympic coverage as part of Taiwan’s sports equality initiative, inviting domestic media to participate in free public broadcasts and encouraging citizens to cheer for Taiwan’s Paralympians.

Through the Paris 2024 broadcast, ELTA successfully inspired nationwide support for Taiwan’s sports media industry. With the help of Chunghwa Telecom’s MOD and Hami Video platforms, the company ensured Taiwan’s athletes—and the many behind-the-scenes heroes—were seen and celebrated. ELTA also reaffirms its ongoing mission as a “pioneer against piracy,” safeguarding a fair and healthy media ecosystem.
